thing 23

I was really surprised by this whole exercise. I enjoyed it a lot but also found some things that I didn't really like. Many of the things I already knew about which was surprising to me! I mentioned in a previous post that I am not very technically savvy but now that I see that I already knew about half of this program, I am starting to have a little bit more confidence. I really liked how the whole program was set up too. I think this was a great idea!

thing 22

After searching through the MOLDI I came across some frustration. I noticed that many of the things I would like to download are not compatible with a Mac and that is what I use. I searched my favorite author, Nicholas Sparks, and only about 4 of his titles are available for a Mac. Some of them were but none of them were compatible with an ipod which is also something I use on a regular basis. I think it is a great idea, I just only use a PC at work...

podcasts

I have been wondering about these podcasts. I keep hearing people talking about them and I have been very confused until now. I think it's a great idea. It's almost like resurrecting the radio in a newer format. I think this can be very helpful for libraries for things like book reviews, promoting events, etc. I came across the Book Review and Author Interview podcast and I thought it was a great idea. This can potentially be very helpful!

YouTube

I use this website all the time! The main thing I use it for is to watch other people play songs on the guitar that I am trying to learn. It makes it so much easier! This is one of my favorite songs and I just learned and perfected it recently. Check it out!

CML Power Tools

I really liked this thing for a number of reasons: 1. It is really easy 2. I learned something new C. A lot of the tools that I already use and love are featured! I have been using Firefox for a long time and definitely like it better than both Internet Explorer and Safari on my Mac. I have also been using gmail for a while and absolutely love it. It is the best e-mail account I have come across - and I've had quite a few! My boyfriend also introduced me to StumbleUpon and Digg which I use quite frequently as well. I "Stumble" when I have free time or when I need something to keep me from falling asleep in class. Definitely some great, useful tools in this toolbox!

thing 18

I was very glad to see that Google Maps won the award for best Maps site. I used to always use MapQuest and had plenty of issues with it. It was so frustrating! Then I found Google Maps and I love it. The compilation of these winning websites is a great idea as well. It's great to be able to just go to one website to find the best tool you need.

Google Docs

First of all, I do love Google and use gmail all the time! This company is amazing. :) Secondly, Google Docs is a great idea! I have many problems with my classes where professors need things to be in Microsoft Office documents but I have a Macbook. Google Docs seems like it could help out by providing sort of a gray area. I love new ideas like this!

thing 16

So that was interesting. After reading everyone's comments on the learn and play blog I was a little worried that it would take me a while to figure this one out. Thankfully all it took was a little bit of patience in waiting for the e-mails to come to me. After that though, I figured it out! It was neat to see how editing is actually done and even practicing it. One more thing accomplished!

thing 15

I like the idea of wikis. I use Wikipedia all the time, even though many professors suggest not to do so. It's interesting how simple and easy it is to get your word out there. Instead of having to jump through firey hoops to get an article published, now you can just post your thoughts on blogs like this or using wikis.

The only thing that scares me is that some people can go off on tangents when they really have no idea what they are talking about. The right person would have to catch that and edit it so that it is correct. Oh well, I guess you have to take the bad with the good sometimes.

thing 14

I really like how the library is getting so proactive. A big fear of mine is that the library would have ignored all of the developing technology and eventually have to shut down because they were no longer needed. As long as the library stays on this course of Library 2.0, there is a bright future. I always enjoy that. :)

del.icio.us

This site is really interesting. I think it gives people a good opportunity to search for something in another place. We all use Google and Wikipedia all the time. I think this could be a useful tool. Also, it's an easy way to keep track of websites you have "bookmarked" at home when you're not there. Interesting stuff..

twitter

My twitter name is: betzya. Honestly, I don't think I would ever use Twitter. I'm sure the library can find some use for it in making announcements, but it's just not my thing. Facebook is enough for me, and that's even stretching it. Oh well.. you can't like everything.

librarything

Here is a link to my library. This is very similar to another website I found called goodreads.com It even allows you to have different "shelves" for currently reading, read, or want to read. Both websites I think are cool.

thing 10

This is just something that I threw together.

I used the LetterJames generator and the calendar tool. I think this is awesome! I have seen people with personalized calendars but had no idea how they made them. This is something that I will definitely use for my 2009 calendar.

thing 9

After looking through the different ways to find feeds, I thought the Topix.net was the easiest. I liked how everything was layed out when you first got to the website. Everything was in easy categories. Syndic8.com was confusing to me. I didn't spend very much time there, though.

bloglines

What a great idea! I personally don't spend a ton of time looking at different blogs and newsfeeds but I do know a great number of people who do. This is such a time-saver for them! I have heard people talking for a while about RSS and up until now I have had no idea what they were talking about! Very interesting... I have learned something new! :)

technology

I got a new phone 2 weeks ago. I am still learning how it works! People always think that everyone my age (almost 20) knows everything about technology and the internet. I know a little bit and I can manage my facebook and e-mail accounts, but aside from that, you'll have to ask my boyfriend. Maybe I'm an exception...or maybe the stereotype is wrong...?

3rd party

I checked out the fd's flickr toys. I thought it was really cool that you can make mosiacs of your own pictures using this tool. This could be an awesome way to make Christmas cards, invitations for parties, baby announcements, etc. I will probably use this in the future to do fun things like that!

I just find it really interesting that people take so much time to do stuff like this. This was done in a subway in NYC. I have been there and I can say first-hand that you cannot even see things like this when you are on the subway. I can understand grafitti in a highly visible spot, but undergroud when people will only see a blur if they are even looking out the window? Just doesn't make sense.

7 1/2 things

Obviously learning is something that I love to do. I have always loved school and it has never been too difficult for me. After viewing the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners, I realized that the hardest habit for me to adopt is to view problems as challenges. The easiest for me is to have confidence in myself as a competent, effective learner. Academics has always been one of my strengths and something that I pride myself in. But as we all know, learning isn't just about academics. It takes me a while when I come across a problem to realize that it is something I can learn from. In hind-sight is when I usually see this; but when in the heat of the moment, my gut reaction is to panic and figure out how to solve the problem as soon as possible. It something I need to work on I guess...

what is this?

So, you're supposed to learn something new every day right? At least that's what they say. This is where I will be posting new things that I learn from time to time. Feel free to correct me when I'm wrong or to add things you learn too!
